Update: Aug. 2013

Hello Supporters of The Uknown Moths of Kaho'olawe!

I would like to update you on my project so you're all aware of what's going on:  As some of you know (but most of you do not), I'm joined forces in a more official way with two researchers at the University of Hawaii who have now made two trips to Kaho'olawe as well, and collected even more specimens, probably of another new species or two (we're already up to five or six new species!).  This is great news, but it means that publication will take a bit longer.

At this point, the three of us are trying to plan one more trip to Kaho'olawe (I may or may not go, depending on my teaching schedule), and it would likely be in December.  If we can go at that time, we will probably collect stuff that's seasonal and only comes out during the wetter times of year.  If not, then we'll just call it good, and start preparing our manuscript in early 2014.  We're already fairly far along with the manuscript in some ways - we've done some of the necessary dissections and most of the DNA sequencing.  So once we're back in December (if we go at all), things shouldn't take too much longer.

Again, thanks to you all for your support - this project wouldn't have gotten on track in the first place without you!

Sincerely,
Matt
